Within-site drivers for soil nutrient variability in plantation forests: A case study from dry sub-humid New Zealand

چکیده
Precise spatial information on soil properties in plantation forests is needed to improve nutrient management and sustain productivity. Soil nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, organic matter, carbon boron are important determinants indicators of fertility quality. Particularly forests, these highly variable space time. In this study, soils were sampled from three forest sites a dry sub-humid region near Blenheim, New Zealand. Thirty sampling points selected, samples collected the across range slope aspect strata. analysed for total (totC), nitrogen (totN), phosphorus (totP), extractable potassium (exK) hot-water (exB). All examined varied significantly (p < 0.05) within sites. A set fine-scale (5 m resolution) topographic surfaces, that might explain variability, then interpolated or derived geographic system software. Topographic surfaces included elevation, aspect, slope, profile plan curvature, position index (TPI), wetness (TWI), wind exposition (WEI), morphometric protection (MPI). generalised linear mixed-effect model was applied develop predictive models. The study found all positively correlated with MPI negatively WEI. This indicated shelter surrounding relief wind. Interestingly, within-site levels both curvature (PrCurv) index, indicating movement through surface moisture. modelling approach has potential application sustainable using spatially-precise estimates fertility.

متن کاملSpatial variability of some soil properties for site specific farming in northern Iran
Evaluating agricultural land management practices requires knowledge of soil spatial variability and understanding their relationships. Spatial distributions for fourteen soil physical and chemical properties were examined in a wheat field in Sorkhankalateh district, in Golestan province, Iran. 101 soil samples at the distances of 5m, 10m and 20m as nested grid were collected at the depth of 0-...
متن کاملVariability in soil heat flux from a mesquite dune site
For many natural and agricultural landscapes, vegetation partially covers the ground surface, resulting in significant variations in soil heat flux between interspace areas and underneath vegetation. This is particularly apparent in arid and semiarid regions where vegetation cover is low and clustered or ‘clumped’ with large areas of exposed soil. Surface heterogeneity presents significant chal...
متن کاملSoil phosphorus functional fractions and tree tissue nutrient concentrations influenced by stand density in subtropical Chinese fir plantation forests
Stand density regulation is an important measure of plantation forest management, and phosphorus (P) is often the limiting factor of tree productivity, especially in the subtropics and tropics. However, the stand density influence on ecosystem P cycling is unclear in Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata) plantations of subtropical China. We collected rhizosphere and bulk soils, leaves and twigs...
متن کاملSensitivity of Soil Respiration to Variability in Soil Moisture and Temperature in a Humid Tropical Forest
Precipitation and temperature are important drivers of soil respiration. The role of moisture and temperature are generally explored at seasonal or inter-annual timescales; however, significant variability also occurs on hourly to daily time-scales. We used small (1.54 m(2)), throughfall exclusion shelters to evaluate the role soil moisture and temperature as temporal controls on soil CO2 efflu...
